50th Kick-off Chapel Ignites Spirit of Celebration

On January 19, 2012, more than 800 staff, faculty, and students packed into Enarson Gym for the 50th anniversary chapel kickoff where President Raymond delivered a speech about the vision of Trinity Western University’s 50th anniversary.

“Trinity Western University is rooted in Christ. We have a history of fidelity, obedience, service, with an emphasis on Christ and on others,” he said. “We celebrate 50 years with thankfulness to God; thankfulness to all those who have gone before; thankfulness to a sacrificial faculty and staff; thankfulness to university leaders over the years who have navigated the challenges and seized the opportunities that occasioned our development and maturing as a world class university, the most remarkable university in Canada. “

Shouts and cheers filled the gym when Dr. Raymond removed his jacket to reveal his bright orange 50th anniversary tee shirt.

His speech was followed by a “TWU Through the Decades” fashion show where faculty and students modeled athletics uniforms and period fashions from 1962 to 2012. The fashion show—emceed by senior student Scott Forsythe—featured several faculty members including Andrea Soberg, Blair Whitmarsh and Holly Nelson, whose flair for the runway was met with great applause.

The chapel concluded with an invitation to students to pick up their 50th anniversary tee shirts.
